FREE performance exploring and celebrating the story of the Dark and Light Theatre.
The performance will be repeated at Brixton Library, Thursday 31 October, 7pm.
Did you know Longfield Hall was once home to the UK’s first Arts Council funded black-led theatre company? Dark and Light made our hall their home from 1969 to 1975. During this time they produced and toured plays across the UK. They also produced annual Jamaican-style pantomimes including Anansi and the Strawberry Queen.
Everyone is welcome along to this performance showcasing work developed over the past few months. Local arts practitioner Tony Cealy has worked with around 20 adults to develop a piece using memories of Brixton in the 1970s. Playwright Don Kinch has been working with young people to develop a piece telling the Dark and Light story. Please come along to support all our participants!
The project is funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund.
